✈️ Airline staff save 30% off Hyatts in Europe

Plus some crazy light-load flights to list for this week.

During a TikTok doomscrolling session a couple days ago, a video from travel icon Samantha Brown on “dead travel weeks” piqued my interest. That inspired us to cross-check loads on various flights this week. And yup, there’s some great nonrev opportunities out there if you leave soon! Read more below. 👇

Happy Tuesday from Houston!

It’s the time of year when the Texas heat gives way to cooler days, but my plate of brisket, chili, and pecan pie remains as delicious as ever. 😋

Here’s what we’re serving today:

🤑 Exclusive Savings for Airline Staff at Hyatts in Europe

From Amsterdam to Zurich, you can take advantage of exclusive deals at various Hyatt brands just by using a certain special offer code and showing your airline ID at check-in.

These rates book under the Hyatt Partner Plan, which is a rate plan reserved for travel industry employees.

When booking this rate, be sure to bring your ID!

To book it, simply use code TRADETR in the Special Offer Code box on Hyatt.com or in the Hyatt mobile app.

If the rate is available, it will display in the search results.

Here’s a few example rates we found this month and next month:

Hyatt Regency Paris Étoile 🇫🇷

This is a great option to explore Paris! Located in the 17th arrondissement, this property is just minutes from the Champs Elysees by metro or car and within eyeshot of the Eiffel Tower.

By using your special offer code here, you can save 90 Euros a night compared to the rate World of Hyatt members pay! 🤯

Date searched: December 17-18

Park Hyatt Zurich🇨🇭

Yes, the code even works at Hyatt’s luxury properties too! 💅

The Park Hyatt in Zurich is located just 200 metres from Lake Zurich and close to Bahnhofstrasse shopping, the old town, museums, and the opera house.

As an airline employee, you can save 140 CHF ($159) a night. That is INSANE SAVINGS!

Date searched: December 17-18

The Tribune Rome 🇮🇹

The Tribune is part of the JdV by Hyatt brand. With a rooftop bar and rooms overlooking the Villa Borghese gardens, you’re in the perfect spot to embark on an Italian holiday any time of year.

(And if you need a pick-me-up, be sure to stop by the nearby Faro cafe, one of our favorites in Roma.) ☕

Anyways, the industry rate can save you 37 EUR a night off the advanced purchase rate and 65 EUR a night of the standard member rate!

Che bello! 🤌

Date searched: January 8-9

Another great perk of using this rate is it isn’t advance purchase. You typically have until 11:59pm hotel time 2 days before arrival to cancel.

Let us know if you spot any other amazing discounts with this rate!

🚨 Light Load Alert

The period between Thanksgiving in the US and mid-December is famously underbooked across most airlines. Families have wrapped up their Thanksgiving trips, and holiday travelers have yet to hit the airports.

This leaves a lot of seats open for savvy nonrevs. But time is ticking! Now’s probably your last chance to snag a row to yourself before the holidays start in earnest.

Here’s a few options we found using the Staff Traveler app.

JFK-NAS
JetBlue/11DEC

By this time tomorrow morning, you could be eating conch on the beach in the Bahamas!

Oh and the high tomorrow in Nassau is 24°C / 76°F in case you needed more convincing. ☀️

A half-empty A320 to paradise!

SFO-PPT
United/12DEC

Will your non-airline friends think you’re crazy for going to Tahiti at the last-minute?

Probably. Should you care? Um, no. 🤷

Business looks doable too 👀

LHR-LAS
Virgin Atlantic/11DEC

For our British readers (or anyone looking for a convenient way back to the US from LHR), you have mere hours before taking the leap on a empty flight to Sin City, baby!

With 161 open seats, you’ll be able to spread out, snooze, and awake rested and ready to hit the slots! 🎰

We assume “First” is Upper Class and “Bus” is Premium Economy

ORD-DUB
Aer Lingus/11DEC

If you can get to Chicago by tomorrow night, you’ll have a great chance of a half-empty A330 to Dublin! Just in time to catch Christmas at the Dublin Castle. ☘️

The luck of the Irish may even get you one of those seats in business.

We also found some pretty open flights this week to/from MEX, HND, FRA, GRU, and others.

Now’s the time to pack your bags and take advantage of the quiet skies!

💬 Jumpseat Gossip

👀 Attempted hijackings still happen in 2024. A passenger on a Volaris flight attempted to forcibly divert the plane to the US. The quick actions of the crew prevented a potential disaster. Read on.

🍌 The best dessert in the sky? United has announced they will be serving Magnolia Bakery’s famed banana pudding in United First on select flights. Anyone got a United companion slot to share? 🤤 Learn more.

🚢 Time to drop those trips for a year! Virgin Voyages has begun selling an annual pass, allowing cruisers the opportunity to live on board Virgin ships for a full year! I can write this newsletter from a boat, right? Check out the price.

If you jump on an empty flight during this “dead week,” let me know! Or if you find any other open flights on your airline, please reply to this email with the details. We’d love to share more Light Load Alerts 🚨 with our staff travel community.

Blue skies and tailwinds,
