A nationwide 24-hour strike by Greek air traffic controllers is scheduled for Wednesday, April 9, 2025, potentially leading to the suspension of all commercial flights to and from Greece during this period.

However, according to Aegean Airlines, the strike "may be suspended following a decision by [the] relevant court of law." Until the court's decision is announced, Aegean and Olympic Air have not made changes to their flight schedules.

Impact on Flights

If the strike proceeds, it will commence at 00:01 and conclude at 23:59 local time on April 9. During this period, only specific flights will be permitted, including medical, humanitarian, and military operations. All scheduled commercial passenger flights are expected to be canceled or delayed.

Airline Responses

Greek airlines Aegean and Olympic Air have proactively offered affected passengers the flexibility to change their tickets without any reissue fee or fare difference, as well as the option to cancel their booking and receive a credit voucher for future use.

Advice for Nonrev Travelers

For airline employees and nonrev travelers planning to travel to or from Greece on April 9, it is crucial to:

  • Stay Updated: Regularly check with your airline for the latest information on flight schedules and potential cancellations.

  • Plan Alternatives: Consider rescheduling travel plans to avoid the strike date or explore alternative routes that bypass Greek airspace.

  • Understand Your Rights: Familiarize yourself with airline policies regarding strikes, including options for rebooking and compensation.

  • Monitor Legal Developments: Be aware that the strike may be subject to legal proceedings that could affect its occurrence.

Given the potential for significant disruptions, proactive planning is essential to minimize the impact on your travel plans. Hopefully a suspension will be announced soon to avoid any disruptions.
